On the afternoon of the 26th, hail the size of an adult’s thumb fell along with loud autumn rain accompanied by gusts of thunder and lightning in parts of Chuncheon, Wonju, Hongcheon, and Hoengseong.
According to the Gangwon Regional Meteorological Administration, hail 0.5 to 1 cm long fell with gusts of wind in Nam-myeon, Chuncheon-si and Seomyeon, Hongcheon-gun, around 4 to 4:30 p.m. on this day.
At the same time, hail fell in Yuhyeon-ri, Seowon-myeon, Hoengseong-gun, and Seogok-ri, Panbu-myeon, Wonju-si, causing residents to quickly take refuge indoors.
Choi Jong-sik (65), a resident of Yuhyeon-ri, said, “Suddenly, the sky darkened, there was thunder and lightning, and my Jindo dog started whining uneasily.” He added, “Immediately, a ‘thumping’ sound started coming from the roof, and the situation continued for 10 minutes. “It was a natural disaster I had never seen in my life,” he said.
Mr. Choi expressed concern, saying, “Hail the size of an adult’s thumbnail fell on the car parked outside my house, leaving scratch marks. I also farm cabbage, radishes, and crown crowns as a hobby, and I am worried that my crops may have been damaged as well.”
To date, there have been no casualties due to hail in the province, but reports of damage to crops, etc. have been reported in some areas.
An official from Hoengseong-gun said, “We have received reports of damage to crops and greenhouses, and the county is checking.”
Additionally, hail the size of peas to chestnuts fell along with the rain in the Jecheon and Danyang areas for about 30 minutes starting at 5:20 p.m. that day.
Mr. Jo (60s), who lives in Susan-myeon, Jecheon, said, “I thought there was an accident because I heard a loud bang, but soon after, large hail started falling nearby. It fell more than I expected, so most of the residents evacuated inside.” .

Hail usually falls when the atmosphere is very unstable, as warm air is located in the lower atmosphere, and cold air flows into the upper atmosphere and falls to the lower layer.
The Korea Meteorological Administration predicted that 5 to 40 mm of rain would continue in Yeongdong until tomorrow morning, with 20 to 60 mm of rain in the central and northern parts and 5 to 40 mm in the south until tomorrow day. Additionally, there will be hail falling in the Yeongseo area until this day, and in the Yeongdong area from dawn to morning tomorrow.
Park Joong-hwan, a forecast analyst at the Korea Meteorological Administration, said, “Across the Korean Peninsula, the temperature difference between the ground and the altitude of 35 km is more than안전놀이터 38 degrees,” adding, “The temperature difference between the upper and lower layers of the atmosphere is more than 40 degrees, especially in the central region and Honam, so there will be areas where the atmosphere is very unstable.” He said.
Forecast analyst Park added that the difference in temperature between the upper and lower layers of the atmosphere on this day was larger than on the 9th, when hail less than 5 mm in diameter fell, or on the 14th, when hail with a diameter of about 5 mm fell.
Rain on the East Coast will continue from this evening until the afternoon of the 27th.
Specifically, rain will begin in the northern part of Yeongdong, Gangwon that night, and pour down mainly in Yeongdong, Gangwon, until the morning of the 27th, then weaken somewhat and the rain will move to the eastern coast of Gyeongbuk.
The expected rainfall is 20~60mm in central and northern Gangwon Yeongdong, 5~40mm in southern Yeongdong Gangwon, and 5~20mm in the eastern coast of Gyeongbuk, northern Gyeongbuk inland, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo.
Cold air has a tendency to sink downwards, so it will create strong winds on land and rough storms at sea.
Strong winds are expected in the Jeolla West Coast and Jeju Mountains from the morning to night of the 27th.
Also, waves will be high mainly in the West and East Seas from the 26th to the 28th.
